2. Winemaking
Ever since I worked in Napa at a winery, winemaking has never been so intriguing. When making wine at home you can get really into it and make top tier wine right in your kitchen!
For starters, it can be very simple and if you enjoy it you can dive deeper into the nitty gritty technical side.
Winemaking can be whatever you want it to be. You can get Cabernet Sauvignon grape juice in a kit and make a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon, or you can take local fruits and aromatic herbs and make your own.
To start winemaking at home you need:
- 1 gallon ingredient kit
- Wine making equipment (be sure to add the 1-gallon fermenter & remove the 5-gallon in your Amazon cart)
Those should give you everything you need to start this awesome DIY adult project. Most wines will be done within 4 weeks, or so. Then you can age it in bottle for as long as you’d like!
To dive into herbal, aromatic, and more primitive wines this resource is essential. I use it as a backbone to many primitive brews I create at home, and is perfect for anyone looking for diy adult crafts projects.

3. Cider Making
Cider making is very similar to winemaking. To be considered a “cider” it must use apple juice. You can buy apple juice from the store, or invest in a fruit press.
I would love to make my own fruit press someday with tools I have laying around. When I make a homemade fruit press I will update this post (because that is an amazing adult DIY project idea)!
The amazing part of cider is you can get really creative and add other fruits or aromatic herbs to your brew, as stated above!
Here are some amazing cider examples:
- Strawberry & Rosemary cider
- Mango & Yarrow cider
- Orange & Rose Petal cider
You can find these incredible herbs here!
Adding herbs and spices into your brew can also add medicinal benefits while also providing depth to the flavor profile. Yarrow, along with mugwort, is a great bittering agent if you don’t like super sweet beverages. While rosemary, thyme, and oregano add earthy notes.

4. Fermented Soda Making
Fermented soda can be an easier and quicker DIY adult project. You can make it alcoholic, or you can keep it as a nonalcoholic drink (depends how long you ferment for).
For a nonalcoholic drink you will not need a gallon fermenter, you can mix your soda up and pop it right into the bottle! It will ferment inside the bottle creating the carbonation, which takes around 48 hours.
